Saturday Practice…

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

Sorry, okay not really, but I wasn’t spending much time paying attention to what was going on in the viewfinder. It’s impossible to evaluate and coach while looking through a 1/4″ window…so I was watching the rider, and dealing with the camera as a secondary priority. So, voila! I give you blurry photographs!

for the last two hours, trying to decide what (or how) I should write a closing post about Sea Otter.

Problem is, we haven’t exactly covered Sea Otter here. I’m definitely going to have to sit down and write this thing out though…if just for the fact that I promised NSMB I would!

Today was pretty mellow, after getting back from Seattle we dropped everyone off, and then I dropped Wayne off. First stop was my house, where I cleaned all the garbage and food out of the van. I thne pulled my gear, and emptied the top boxes. It was then off to Shuams’ place, where I put all the gear we got at Sea Otter away in the garage. Since I was there, I emptied out Shaums’ gear…but I’ll admit to burning out before washing and vac’ing the van. As soon as that is done, Sea Otter is technically ‘over’ for me.

The Space Needle is officially the worst and biggest waste of $16.

Watching Clint freak out over the heights…almost worth the $16.

I need to put the Hood River riding story in here.

I have officially hit

Vacation time.

I’m at that point where I can’t honestly tell you what day of the week it is.

Perhaps due to the ridiculous amount of late night driving, crazy schedule we’ve set or the fact that I’ve done something in five towns in the last 24hrs.

Regardless, I don’t know what day of the week it is. Only that we ride Hood River tomorrow, and then maybe Seattle the next day…

That, to me at least, means I’m on vacation.

I need to put the Ashland riding story in here…

Sea Otter to Ashland

Monday, April 21st, 2008

We left Sea Otter right after the Junior Expert DH. By the time the Pinkbike crew met up with us to grab the gear they left in the van it was about 4:00 when we left, and hour later then last year if I remember correctly.

Our first stop was In-n-Out…$45 worth of double cheeseburgers and we were back on the road. In-n-Out always seems like such a good idea, until you finish. Then you wonder why you chose to order two burgers, fries and a shake. On the plus side, it is all fresh. Greasy, but fresh.

I figured I had a couple of hours worth of driving in me. With a coffee, some Monster and a Counting Crows concert on Sirius I was able to make it about 5 hours before finally pulling over. Wayne took over and got us all the way to Yrenka California before we had to pull over. With it being midnight, and only an hour left until Ashland, we all agreed that some showers and a good nights sleep would be better then dragging ourselves the final hour.

Two rooms at the Motel 6, and 8 hours later, we are on the road to Ashland. Our next stop will be a cool little breakfast/coffee spot where I managed to dump a full lap of coffee onto Harrison last year. Following breakfast we’ll meet up with PBR Wes and hit the trails.
