A quick note on sunday…

Monday, October 3rd, 2005

I pretty much just need to make sunday a seperate post so that my “riding days” numbers work correctly on the right hand side of the homepage :P

Sunday was a bright and early day so that I could get a number of runs in before noon. Through a combination of riding with Aaron, Alex #2, Nomad and a few others I ripped off five runs in an hour and a half…just before the lift lines started to grow. I know I got two runs of shot-glass in, one of which was made with some of the 705 crew members. I rode 290 ft of the log ride, but duffed the last sharp corner before the teeter-totter. Through some sessioning I _almost_ nailed the teeter…but thought I’d go back for one more before we left. I didn’t make another shot-glass, so I’ll just have to go back next week (shucks eh?). I also got in two runs of R-shore, and that new addition the rock section at the top makes it super easy…which, while a bit disappointing, makes diving into those first two corners a heck of a lot of fun. The last run for the day was Squeaker with Rodrigo and Nomad. I absolutely love those trails. I dunno, the ‘main’ runs everyone does are fun…but I think you need to be much more of a rider technically in order to do runs like squeaker with speed.

With squeaker finished, I ended my weekend to go to the chalet and make sure that a summer worth of riding buddies was erased and the place was spotless for the family return next weekend. A HUGE thanks needs to go out to Aaron who also ended his day early to come back and help me move barbeques, make beds and clean up the chalet.

And…I’m BACK!

So, I’m back. Yes, that’s right…Daver is riding again! This past saturday was Dropmachine-Day at blue mountain, so it was a good weekend to choose for making the big ol’ comeback. The weekend started with picking up the 4000q from my buddy Alon who had borrowed it while his car was getting painted. I’m pretty sure he swapped cars before I got to it though, because it was like a NEW CAR when I showed up to get it! Alon had his detaling guy take care of the car, and take care he did. I tried, at one point, to get the carpets clean, but there was so much salt, food and bike grease ground into them there was no hope. The carpets are now BLACK! They even shampooed the headliner!! It was awesome. (more…)

And…it’s over.

Okay, this post is coming up almost two weeks late. My quest for 32 days of lift and/or shuttle accessed mountain biking is likely over for the 2005 season. On sunday July 11th I went over the handlebars and broke my left collarbone against a tree. I’m out for an extended period of time, that’s for sure…and my B.C. trip is definitely screwed for me…but it’s not ALL bad. Read on for the full story…

19 days until B.C.

That may seem like a strange title for another day of riding at Blue, but that’s pretty much the only thing bouncing through the heads of Tyler, Aaron and I. We’re inside that 20-day window before a trip where each day just gets more and more exciting about what’s coming up. But we’re not there yet! We’re still hammering away at Blue’s trails. (more…)

So last night I decided to drive up to the cottage in Muskoka to spend the night/day…maybe even the weekend. Why? No idea, but I didn’t really have anything to do…and I never go to the cottage anymore so what the heck, why not? Anyways, I figured that I should head off riding today, a little XC was in order since I’m still rather sore from last weekend…a weekend off DH is probably a good idea. After waking up in time for lunch, I left the cottage to go back to the camp I used to work at, Ontario Pioneer Camp.

Okay…Yeah, that hurt.

Geesh…another weekend, another bail. I swear…I DO know how to do this mountain biking thing, though I’m pretty sure my co-workers and family are starting to think otherwise.

Lots of vertical…especially for Onterrible!

So the day started with a sleep-in…and a fairly large lack of breakfast prompted by complete laziness. Aaron and I arrived at blue for about 10:30 and then promptly began figuring out what we broke last weekend. :-P brakes were bled, deraillieur hangers were swapped and tire pressures (that were supposed to be checked) were totally forgotten about. Sometime around 11:00ish Josh Brown joined us for some maintainence, and shortly after we hit the gondola.

Another day at Blue Mountain. I swear I’ll never get tired of this place :P

The slick conditions continued for Sunday, but thanks to some improving weather they were able to open a number of other runs. O-Chute, Lower R-Shore, Autobahn, Showcase, Waterfall, Shot Glass and Highway were all opened up at some point during the day. I probably messed up and said Autobahn was open yesterday. It wasn’t…that was O-chute to R-Shore…oh well.

Greg headed over to the dirt jumps for a little sessioning in the morning. I should probably mention that Greg is a street guy. He rides a .243 with dual 24″ wheels, single speed and a single brake…on the rear wheel. This is a guy who learned how to manual with no brakes…and can throw down with style. He was loving embryo, but I wasn’t surprised when he said that he was heading to the dirt jumps…

Epic…and I can’t talk about it!

So today was riding at Blue Mountain again. We almost didn’t go. Truth be told, I called the boyz to cancel on them as I REALLY should have been working this weekend to get stuff ready for the television show Andrew is hosting. Anyways, I couldn’t cancel on the boyz so up we went.

Saturday morning was wet outside the chalet. The parking lot was like oatmeal it was so wet, and the car was covered with that ‘mist’ you get just before it rains. The drive to blue wasn’t any more promising, with the wipers going about 50% of the time. Now, everyone knows I love the wet at blue…so why does it sound like I’m complaining? In my head…all I could hear was everyone elsecomplaining while I was having a great time in the slick…so I wasn’t looking forward to it. Much to everyone’s relief the clouds seemed to break as we got closer to Blue. Well, it wasn’t sunny…but it wasn’t raining either.

Back to Durham

Tyler, Aaron, Billy and and a guy who’s name I’ve forgotten. He bought the RM9 frame from Bay Cycle.

Thumb is still really sore. Did four runs, two very slow ones…one semi-quick one and then a fourth at about 3/4 normal speed. Hitting the brakes, or landing off jumps hurts the thumb…some four letter words were heard upon landing as I almost hit a tree.

Other then that…a good day! hahaha
